This evening, we will hear a selection of the finest chamber music played by outstanding musicians from the Hungarian National Philharmonic. The programme is bookended by the Great Fugue, which is perhaps among the most difficult works to understand and interpret in music history. Beethoven's trio with opus number 11 was a rearrangement by the young composer of an opera hit of the day in his unmistakably humorous and ingenious style. Lasting just five or six minutes in total, Webern's Six Bagate...lles, written in 1913, is also challenging due to its abstract nature, while the unjustly overlooked Trio Pathétique by Glinka, among the leading figures in Russian Romanticism, completes the programme as another genuine collector's item.
