For the seventh time now, and the first at the Palace of Arts, there will be a New Year’s Eve Amadinda–Presser concert. The principal feature of these concerts is that the programmes comprise of productions which could be rarely or perhaps never heard. It is quite likely that Amadinda transcriptions of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and piano pieces by Ravel and Debussy were only ever performed once on New Year’s Eve. The programme finds room for classic Amadinda repertoire pieces, among them the immo...rtal compositions of the ragtime era and fresh works by members Aurél Holló and Zoltán Váczi. Exotic traditional music is indispensable of course. Some of the most memorable moments in recent years have been Presser compositions which were adapted for Presser and Amadinda to perform together. In these concerts, notions of genre are forgotten and this will be the case once again. In the minutes before midnight, the sound of Amadinda’s gongs will fill the hall, and then precisely at midnight, Zoltán Rácz will play the Hungarian National Anthem on the piano, with heavy heart beats, and the audience will stand and sing with him. In the following break, there will be time for kisses and champagne. The first half of the concert has to be precisely planned – since they mustn’t miss the magic midnight moment. The second “half” is much freer, and its length depends more on the enthusiasm of the audience. This is the part of the concert given over to unrepeatable moments. The first production of the New Year is traditionally a Strauss polka, then the evening’s guests will take the stage. And if everything goes according to plan, there will even be a bit of fooling around with the audience fully participating.
