Featuring: Veronica Cangemi, John Mark Ainsley, Florian Boesch – singers, MR Choir (choirmaster: Kálmán Strausz) In 2008, the Palace of Arts will join the noble tradition of joyous New Year’s concerts. The Austrian composer Joseph Haydn worked for one of the most influential Hungarian noble families, the Esterházys at Kismarton and Eszterháza (today Eisenstadt and Fertőd). When composing his oratorio The Creation (Hob. XXI:2) in 1798, he was fated as one of the very greatest living composers in... Europe. This majestic work will now be conducted by the internationally famous Adam Fischer who founded the Austrian-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic in 1987 which each year is the resident ensemble of the International Haydn Festival at Eisenstadt. This evening’s soloists are all celebrated exponents of Haydn’s marvellous music and the Vienna classics. The Argentinean soprano Veronica Cangemi has starred in operas by Mozart and Gluck at Glyndebourne with Sir Neville Marriner, and she also played the title role in the recording of Vivaldi’s opera Griselda which won the Diapason d’Or award. The young Austrian baritone Florian Boesch is also a world famous opera singer. He participated in a performance of Haydn’s Orlando Paladino at the Vienna Musikverein with conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt and has worked since with the great Austrian conductor regularly. He has often sung with Adam Fischer at Eisenstadt. One of England’s leading tenors, John Mark Ainsley has worked as a concert singer with the leading American and European orchestras and with such distinguished conductors as Roger Norrington, Seiji Ozawa, Trevor Pinnock and Simon Rattle, among others.
