The Budapest Music Centre and the Palace of Arts – supported by a number of enthusiastic partners – staged the first New Hungarian Music Forum competition in 2008-2009. The objective is to promote and support the creation of new Hungarian music, and to establish lasting collaboration between chamber ensembles and full orchestras and composers below the age of 40. The competition sparked enormous interest among both audi-ences and young composers – even composer and conductor Péter Eötvös was su...rprised at the number of entries. This year, main awards will be handed out in the orchestral and chamber music categories, but a variety of special prizes will also be issued. The entries will be played by Concerto Budapest led by violinist and conductor András Keller, a committed believer in contemporary music, and the UMZE Chamber Ensemble, conducted by Zoltán Rácz. The event is supported by the Classical Music Office and will be broadcast live by MR3-Bartók Radio. The judges will be chaired by András Batta, who will be joined by a host of well known Hungarian musicians, including Zsolt Hamar, Zoltán Jeney, András Keller, Zoltán Rácz and József Soproni. They are tasked with awarding a total of Ft 3.5 million (almost €13,000), a sizeable prize pot even by international standards. Presented by the Palace of Arts, BMC
