A truly exciting concert is in store, because András Schiff is conducting Zoltán Kocsis’s orchestra for the first time, what is more, in one of the most marvellous works in the musical literature. Written in 1727, the St Matthew Passion is much longer and uses greater forces than any other of Johann Sebastian Bach’s other works, and although it is certainly not lacking in drama, it leaves time for lyrical meditation and tender expression of feelings. In this performance, leading foreign singe...rs will be the soloists. The tenor will be Carsten Süss who worked with the National Philharmonic Orchestra in summer 2006 when he played Tamino in the opening performance of the Veszprém Festival.
