“Music is as essential to life as the air we breath. Many people don't even notice it until it becomes very scarce.” (Zoltán Kodály) Ibiden Hungary Kft. was formed in June 2004 to operate the Japanese Ibiden group's second European plant. The company manufactures particulate filters (DPFs) for diesel engines, which remove more than 99% of harmful particle emissions and significantly reducing air pollution. In addition to helping protect the environment, the company's corporate social responsib...ility programme includes active promotion of choral traditions and the Kodály Method in particular, a teaching concept highly respected in Japan. Several years ago, the company founded its own choir in Hungary, which performs in front of the company's employees on a monthly basis. The choir is represented by almost every level of the organisation from assembly line workers and office assistants to production managers. The corporate hierarchy is put to one side in rehearsals, which employees attend for the pure enjoyment of singing and performing together. There are several reasons for tonight's charity concert. First, we would like to raise awareness that the globally acknowledged Kodály Method and the teaching of singing and music has been neglected. Moreover, the choral tradition has been left with just a handful of major representatives – even though, as Kodály himself said, “Music should belong to everyone.” To close the concert, the organisers will invite the more adventurous members of the audience to participate in the performance of an a capella piece and a choral movement from a world-renowned Handel oratorio. The organisers hope this will help bring people closer to perhaps the most magical of all musical instruments – the human voice. The 99% clean air will be guaranteed by Ibiden Hungary, with the Palace of Arts providing an outstanding venue. Sheet music for the pieces to be performed with audience participation are available for download on www.ibiden.hu to allow as many audience members as possible will find their voices. This allows those that wish to participate to arrive fully prepared to join in the singing. Those attending the concert are invited to excecise their vocal chords with a dress rehearsal an hour prior to the event. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to charity.
