Gustav Mahler’s art is linked with Hungarian cultural history: for four years he worked as the chief music director of the Hungarian Royal Opera House/1888-1891/. The premiere of his first symphony was performed by the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra. The composer’s memory is kept alive by the annual Mahler concert series, with performances of his symphonic works. Our film sets out to depict the composer’s portrait, with conductor Iván Fischer, artistic director of the Mahler Festival, summin...g up the background and characteristics, as well as the human and artistic image of Mahler’s art. The conductor’s portrait is brought alive by performances, symphonies and song cycles from the Mahler Festivals over the past six years. Presented by: Palace of Arts
