Livia Sohn began her studies at the Juilliard School at just seven. She gave her first solo concert a year later. At the age of twelve, she won the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition. She now plays with the world’s leading ensembles and conductors. According to Strad Magazine: “Livia possesses a remarkably lithe and transparent tone of exceptional purity. Even when under the most fearsome technical pressure at high velocity, every note rings true with pinpoint accuracy”. Following t...he première of an orchestral work by John Adams, we shall hear Barber’s Violin Concerto. The second half of the concert is devoted to a performance of Mahler’s infinitely beautiful and poetic Symphony No. 5.
