To mark the one hundredth anniversary of the American composer Samuel Barber, the MR Symphonics perform the third of his works to be given a Hungarian première. Composed in 1955, he depicts the figure of Medea using both modern and ancient musical devices. Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 is the only one he composed in a minor key. Throughout the work, both soloist and orchestra are equal partners in presenting the themes. The concert concludes with Shostakovich’s monumental Symphony No. 5, whic...h with its musical depiction of varying characters, presents various human behaviours and struggles. The grand finale proclaims an enthusiastic victory with the use of liberated and dynamic musical devices.
