Conductor: Mátyás Antal Featuring: Katalin Halmai, Attila Fekete – vocals, Kristóf Baráti – violin Paganini: Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor (“La Campanella”), op. 7 Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde The MR Symphonics perform as guests in the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra’s subscription series and are conducted by the choirmaster of the Hungarian National Choir, Mátyás Antal. The third movement of Niccolò Paganini’s 1826 Violin Concerto features the famous “La Campanella” movement.... The soloist will be the great young Hungarian violinist Kristóf Baráti. In his symphony Das Lied von der Erde, Gustav Mahler sets six Chinese verses to music which he knew from free translations in German. The poems depict nature scenes and concern essential questions about life and its ultimate purpose. Mahler was clearly preoccupied with these issues and does not aim to present the external trappings of these poems but aims for something very much deeper. The titles of the movements are as follows: I. Drinking Song of Earth’s Misery, II. The Lonely Soul in Autumn, III. Of Youth, IV. Of Beauty, V. The Drunkard in Spring, VI. The Farewell.
