Live broadcast with English and Hungarian subtitle. Considered by many to be the greatest musical work of all time, Don Giovanni was premièred on 29 October 1787 in Prague, where Mozart was invited to compose new works following the astonishing success of The Marriage of Figaro. The title role, ranked by Kierkegaard as the third and highest stage of erotic genius, is also approached by director Michael Grandage from an emotional perspective: “Don Giovanni has a charismatic lust for life, but ...he’s not just some serial seducer; he’s a dark, complex individual.” Conductor James Levine has selected from among the finest performers of Don Giovanni roles at the world's top opera houses. The choreography is the brainchild of Ben Wright, the set and costumes were designed by Tony-winning Christopher Oram, while Paule Constable has created the lighting design.
