Featuring: János Rolla, Csaba Klenyán W. A. Mozart: Adagio and Fugue, K. 546 Concerto for Clarinet in A major, K. 622 Divertimento in B flat major, K. 137 Divertimento in D major, K. 205 The Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra was founded over forty years ago by Frigyes Sándor. After his death in 1979, he was succeeded by their current concertmaster János Rolla. The critic of Nice Matin wrote about the ensemble, saying: “The Budapest Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra is human perfection”. The c...omposer of the music to the film The Godfather probably never imagined that he would inspire a young Hungarian boy to take up a career in music. And yet this is what happened with Csaba Klenyán: influenced by the famous Coppola film music he decided to take up the clarinet. Born in 1969, since graduating from the Academy of Music he has performed all over Europe and won first prize at various international competitions. His immense repertoire includes many pieces by contemporary composers. This evening, Csaba Klenyán will play a late masterpiece by Mozart, his Clarinet Concerto in A major (if we can call any work by a composer who died at the age of thirty five “late”). The clarinet was still a very new instrument in Mozart’s time – it first featured in orchestras around 1750 – and a Hungarian music critic wrote that “Mozart solved the instrument’s language, he taught it to speak, and listen just how!” Our audience this evening will immediately understand what this critic was talking about.
