A violinist of universal talent, Maxim Vengerov is one of the most outstanding musicians of our time. Health problems seemed to bring this brilliant career to an abrupt end on the zenith: in 2007 Hungarian concert goers were also shocked by news of Vengerov’s retirement. He cancelled all his concerts, and postponed work on an old project, the recording of Mozart’s violin concertos. The following year, however, there were encouraging signs of his right hand recovering, making an optimistic Venger...ov claim that “not being able to return to the violin would be like never again uttering a Russian word; the violin is a part of my life.” The artist has always enjoyed performing in Budapest, where he has invariably galvanized his audience. He now will play two splendid double concertos with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra and a superb Turkish musician, and will be conducting a Mozart piece that is considered an acme in the history of the symphony. His partner in the concertos is violinist and viola player Özcan Ulucan, who honed his skills under the guidance of Maxim Vengerov between 2000 and 2004. Much to the satisfaction of the master, it seems, because the two have frequently shared the stage ever since.
