Péter Csaba, the new principal conductor of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, introduces himself to the audience of the Palace of Arts with a programme of music from his chosen home of France. Claude Debussy’s Trois Nocturnes is a series of impressionistic musical pictures, two of which will be heard this evening. Maurice Ravel’s two technically very difficult piano concertos are rarely performed in one concert – but the French pianist Jean-François Heisser is on hand to undertake this challenging tas...k. Albert Roussel, one of the most important French composers of the period between the two World Wars, composed his ballet Bacchus and Ariadne in 1931, from which he later created two suites for orchestra.
