Andrea Rost is the most successful Hungarian singer of the past two decades. Her international career was launched almost exactly 20 years ago when she signed a contract with the Vienna State Opera – barely a couple of years after graduating from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music and her first performance in Budapest. Since then, she has conquered La Scala in Milan, the Salzburg Festival, London's Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as opera houses in Washington, Los An...geles, Chicago, Tokyo and every European capital. Rost has sung alongside Ricardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, György Solti and many other world-famous conductors – and has made so many recordings that they would be almost impossible to count them. A winner of the Liszt, Kossuth and Prima Primissima awards and honoured by the Republic of Hungary, Andrea Rost has achieved everything an opera singer could wish for, yet she always finds time to perform in Hungary. In the past, she has performed at major gala concerts with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, but this is the first time she will appear on stage as the central attraction. This concert is unique in that Rost, who has performed Mozart and all major soprano roles from the Italian operas, will exclusively sing pieces from Hungarian composers. Ádám Medveczky began his musical career as an orchestral percussionist before graduating in conducting at the Budapest Academy of Music. He has been conductor to the Hungarian State Opera ever since 1969 and also been employed as lead conductor at several Hungarian orchestras. Medveczky currently occupies this position at the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra. His career was launched in earnest in 1972, when he came second only to Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro in the first Budapest International Conductors' Competition, organised by Hungarian State Television. Presented by the MÁV Symphony Orchestra
