Featuring: Zoltán Kocsis – piano Mozart: Lucio Silla – overture, K. 135 Bartók: Piano Concerto no. I Beethoven: Symphony no. 2 in D major, op. 36 This will be the third occasion that the pairing of Zoltán Kocsis and Gábor Takács- Nagy will play together. Kocsis is a Bartók specialist and pianist, whereas Takács-Nagy is a violinist-conductor who has been working with the orchestra since 2005. Together the results will be spectacular. As befits the tradition, there is Beethoven on the progr...amme, not a piano concerto but his Symphony no. 2 in D major, a mature work from his early career. The undoubted highlight will be a performance of Bartók’s Piano Concerto no. 1 in which Bartók unveiled some startling innovations in piano technique and orchestral sonority.
