In 2007, we celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Zoltán Kodály. Alongside two of his most popular works, we will hear twenty folksong settings arranged by Zoltán Kocsis. Those who have heard Kocsis’s arrangements of Debussy’s songs for orchestra or his ambitious transcription of Kodály’s great contemporary, Béla Bartók’s Twenty Hungarian folksongs, will have an idea what is in store. Anyone who has not yet heard Kocsis’s bravura orchestrations really must turn up for this concert. I...t is not impossible that they will find themselves soon singing familiar Hungarian folksongs bathed in impressionistic lights and French sound colours.
