Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was born in New Zealand of Maori decent. She is one of the greatest sopranos of our era, a living legend. After completing her opera singing studies, she appeared in smaller English and American opera houses, but made her debut on the Covent Garden stage when only twenty six, and this led rapidly to regular invitations to all the world’s leading opera houses and festivals. Her interpretations of roles by Richard Strauss and Mozart are unforgettable, and she performed many Moz...art operas under the baton of Sir Georg Solti. She has now retired from the operatic stage and only rarely gives song recitals. It is a particular honour for us that her current tour brings her to Budapest and this is possibly the last time that the audience of the Palace of Arts will be able to enjoy her artistry live. She will sing a selection from her favourite composers, and we can expect to hear songs by Mozart and Richard Strauss.
