Conductor: Gergely Ménesi Featuring: Györgyi Avvakumovits, Jutta Bokor, András Molnár, István Berczelly – singers, István Gulyás – piano, Vasas Arts Ensemble Lajos Vass Choir (choirmaster: Csaba Somos), Vác Vox Humana Choir (choirmaster: Tibor Lógó) Liszt: Totentanz Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 in D minor, op. 125 The King Saint Stephen Secondary School Jubilee Symphony Orchestra was founded on World Music Day on October 1st 1995, by enthusiastic former members of the school orchestra. The en...terprise was overseen and encouraged by legendary teacher József Záborszky. Another impetus for its formation was the school orchestra’s fortieth anniversary celebrations the previous year. The Jubilee Orchestra has between 50 and 60 members, and comprises amateurs as well as professional musicians. It is also increasingly common to find parents and children playing together in the orchestra. Its resident conductor is Gergely Ménesi who in 1998 was second in Hungarian Television’s International Conducting Competition. Besides his qualities as a conductor, he is able to ensure continuity with the “St Stephen Orchestra atmosphere” since he himself played violin in the school orchestra for many years. The Jubilee Symphony Orchestra holds its concerts in the King Saint Stephen Music House in Zugló (district of Budapest), but they have played at the Academy of Music on several occasions to packed houses. Their regular partners are the Vác Vox Humana Choir and the Vasas Arts Ensemble Lajos Vass Choir.
