Born in Budapest in 1986, Kata Szabó specialised in the piano at the Paks School of Arts from the age of seven. Her relationship with the organ began at the Reformed Church of Paks, where she started out as a cantor at the age of 11, before successfully applying to study the organ at the Pécs Secondary School of Arts, where she was taught by Péter Marosvári. She met Liszt Award-winning organist Zsuzsa Elekes at an international organ conference held in the Szeged Synagogue in April 2004, and she... began studying under Elekes at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest the following year. From September 2006, she attended the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, where she was taught by professors János Pálúr, István Ruppert and then László Fassang, while regularly performing in domestic and international concerts. In the course of her higher education, Szabó's technical development has been overseen by Dezső Karasszon and Miklós Spányi, and she has attended masterclasses held by Csaba Király in Hungary, Jacques van Oortmerssen, Hans-Ola Ericsson and Martin Schmeding in Leipzig in 2009, and Bálint Karosi and James David Christie in Boston in August 2010. From September 2010 to July 2011, she was a member of Christoph Bossert's organ class at the Würzburg University for Music in Germany on an Erasmus scholarship. Entry is free.
