The National Philharmonic Orchestra begins 2011 by welcoming someone who is not an international star performer – but merely a fabulous artist. Natalia Gutman's musical career has been supported by such names as her teacher Mstislav Rostropovich, former husband Oleg Kagan, and her father's great friend Sviatoslav Richter, who called her the embodiment of musical truth, authenticity and honesty. Tonight, Natalia Gutman will perform one of the best known and finest cello concertos in the Béla Bart...ók National Concert Hall. Dvořák wrote his Cello Concerto in B minor during his time in New York after completing his Ninth Symphony. He captured his New World experiences in music, expanding on melodies familiar from gospel music.
