As they have for decades, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra launches the new season in September 2010 on the anniversary of Bartók’s death. This year’s concert presages the year of Liszt, one of the great all round musical geniuses, because 2011 will mark the two hundredth anniversary of his birth in Doborján. The orchestra pays homage with two rarely heard works: the Psalm No. 13 and the Bells of Strasbourg. Pairing Liszt with the Violin Concerto by Bartók is no coincidence – the t...wo composers have a spiritual link that is well understood. This concerto is increasingly acknowledged as a classic of the genre and this evening, the soloist will be Sergei Krylov, who has won numerous violin competitions and whose teachers included Salvatore Accardo. He also worked closely with Mstislav Rostropovich, and their many performances together influenced him deeply.
