Conductor: Zoltán Kocsis Mahler: Symphony No. 8 in E flat major Featuring: Ildikó Cserna, Tünde Szabóki, Cleo Mitilineou, Bernadett Wiedemann, Andrea Meláth, Attila Fekete, András Káldi Kiss, Krisztián Cser – singers, Hungarian National Choir (choirmaster: Mátyás Antal), MR Music Groups (choirmasters: Kálmán Strausz, Gabriella Thész) Gustav Mahler’s immense eighty minute work for massive forces is often referred to as the “Symphony of a Thousand”. This is entirely justified because at i...ts world premiere in Munich in 1910, with Mahler conducting, there were 850 choir singers and a 170 strong orchestra. The performance was a success that Mahler rarely had enjoyed in his lifetime, as most of his pieces required many years after his death to earn the recognition they deserve.
