After the overture from one of Rossini's most frequently performed operas, premièred in 1813, this programme features masterpieces by three Russian composers from a period a century later. Finland's Olli Mustonen is considered among one of the most stylistically original pianists today. Here he will perform Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3, a work that radiates vitality. To pair the Prokofiev work with Rachmaninoff's Études-Tableaux from the 1910s is an exciting move, particularly in the form of... an arrangement by Zoltán Kocsis. Originating from the same period is Stravinsky's ballet adaptation of a Russian folk tale, which is rightly one of the most popular orchestral works of the 20th century.
