The guest star of the season-opening concert traditionally held on the evening before the anniversary of Béla Bartók's death will be arriving from Paris. While his concert programmes and recordings indicate that Bartók is one of his favourite composers, on this occasion he will be playing an emblematic work from the Romantic literature. Four Old Hungarian Folk Songs can be heard only rarely, and 20 Hungarian Folk Songs, originating from 1929, is special in that it is not only a compendium of the... world of peasants, but also of Bartók's own music. The composer rescored five of them for orchestra, with Zoltán Kocsis arranging the others.
