Two Austrian versions of Te Deum bookend tonight's particularly colourful programme. Joseph Haydn's creation was completed in 1800, at around the time of The Seasons and his later masses. It is thought to have first been performed in Kismarton as part of events to mark the visit of Lord Nelson. The other Te Deum was composed by Anton Bruckner between 1881 and 1884 and is considered to be his finest work. Between the two ecclesiastical works, the audience will hear music from two composers closel...y associated with film music. Péter Wolf is known to all Hungarians as the creator of the music to accompany the popular children's animation ofVuk, a fox cub who yearns to go hunting. His Violin Concerto invokes the atmosphere of six towns and their surroundings. Described as a musical genius by no less than Gustav Mahler, Erich Wolfgang Korngold scored fantastic music for a great many Hollywood films between 1935 and 1956. He was persuaded to write his Violin Concerto by Bronisław Huberman in 1945 and its ongoing success dates back to a première by world-famous violinist Jascha Heifetz.
