The Hungarian State Choir celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2011. Its name is now synonymous with Mátyás Antal, who has occupied the chorusmaster's position since 1990. The extremely high-quality rePresented by: The group's singers is reflected in the difficulty of the works the choir has mastered in the past, including the 2006 Hungarian premier of Kurtág's Songs of Despair and Sorrow cycle and the performance of Schönberg's Moses and Aaron in 2009 and 2010. For this celebratory concert, the w...orks chosen from a repertoire spanning more than half a century may be significantly less challenging, but nonetheless require a high degree of preparation. Stravinksy's exhilarating Russian wedding episodes are unusual in that they combine percussion and piano.
