The deepest shame is not to feel loved
'Love literally seems to conquer all. Even death.' This far-from-customary Orfeo & Euridice is a Swedish production that forms part of the Armel Opera Festival focusing on introducing unusual and exciting contemporary opera interpretations. The performances is for anyone who has ever genuinely loved someone and attempted to understand the true nature of love even just once.
The love story of Orfeo and Euridice familiar from Greek mythology has been reimagined in the present day by Swedish director Åsa Kalmér and costume designer Bente Rolandsdotter. Their daily lives and relationships are like any of ours - and an unexpected death reveals their inner worlds to us. The dreams, doubts and emotions that appear to line the winding paths of the intellect are woven into the classical, enchanting music of Christoph Willibald Gluck.
In a relationship that exists outside accepted norms on this occasion, Orfeo and Euridice come face to face with the expectations and possibilities inherent in the mythology of our everyday existence. In this production by NorrlandsOperan, a company famous for its remarkable visuals, we can expect a wonderful adaptation of one of the most beautiful works of the opera literature. Åsa Kalmér has directed countless theatre, television, opera and film productions and also assisted Ingmar Bergman on two occasions. The conductor for the performance, Olof Boman is primarily known for his passion for early music, but he can also be found working on one-off productions: he has conducted a live orchestra for a Vivienne Westwood fashion show, and has produced an opera with Peaches in the lead role. The role of Ámor will be performed by young French soprano Jeanne Gérard, a finalist in the Armel Opera Festival singing competition.
