Following her triumphant Metropolitan debut when we got to know her as Rosina in The Barber of Seville in the last season, Elīna Garanča already plays yet another enchanting Rossini-character in this bel canto Cinderella story. The Latvian singer changed her Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston records to Joan Sutherland’s at the age of 17 and sang along to Casta Diva, until the neighbours stopped her. Audiences of renowned international opera houses got to know her in 2003 when she sang the role o...f Annio in Mozart’s opera The Clemency of Titus at the Salzburg Festival. The conductor of the memorable performance was Nikolaus Harnoncourt. The primadonna enjoys being a coloratur mezzo-soprano, since she can dazzle in shining roles, such as Cinderella. Prince Charming, Don Ramiro, is played by Lawrence Brownlee. The excellent bel canto tenor’s repertoire includes practically all Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti operas and many great oratories. Veteran baritone Alessangro Corbelli displays humour hidden in the opera with an immaculate sense of rhythm and thus is a worthy partner to the significant personality of Metropolitan favourite John Relyea.
