Conductor: Marco Armiliato Production: Nicolas Joël Featuring: Angela Gheorghiu, Lisette Oropesa, Roberto Alagna, Marius Brenciu, Samuel Ramey The charismatic star couple of the love story of the perhaps most popular opera composer in the world, Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna, form a couple in real life too. Romanian Ms Gheorghiu made her debut in 1990 as Mimi in Cluj and in the same year went on to win the Belvedere Competition in Vienna and, due to the changes in her home, her rapid ...international career could commence. Within five years the audiences of the biggest stages were at her feet (including audiences of the Met, the Scala, the Staatsoper, and Covent Garden). One of the favourite parts of the Diva renowned for her outspokenness is Magda in The Swallow, the mistress risking all for true love. Roberto Alagna born near Paris of Sicilian origins won the International Pavarotti Singing Competition in 1988 and made his debut in Glyndebourne La Traviata’s Alfredo. He enjoys singing in French operas and in rarely staged Italian and French pieces, but his breakthrough successes were made primarily in the great Italian operas of the 19th century. Ruggero Lastouc, created by Puccini and played by legendary Tito Schipa at the Monte Carlo premier of the piece, is the man because of whom Magda questions the real value of her glamorous life. The exceptionally gifted, world-famous bass-baritone Samuel Ramey sings the part of the mentor of the lady. This dazzlingly melodious interpretation of love is presented in the new performance directed by Nicolas Joël.
