Conductor: Marco Armiliato Production: Mary Zimmerman Featuring: Anna Netrebko, Rolando Villazón, Mariusz Kwiecien, Ildar Abdrazakov Anna Netrebko dazzles as Donizetti’s fragile heroine. The Russian soprano-marvel started her career at the Mariinsky Theatre headed by Valeri Gheorghiev in 1993. The Magic Flute’s Pamina and The Barber of Seville’s Rosina quickly brought her world fame, and she soon became one of the most sought after and most successful stars of opera houses. “She is a singer... who has it all: her voice is incredibly clear, polished and agile, with enormous dynamics and diversity. Unusual imagination and intelligence merge with dazzling charisma that makes it impossible not to pay attention to her when she sings”, wrote the San Francisco Chronicle. Lucia’s love Edgar is played by a prominent opera singer and one of the most popular tenors of our time, Rolando Villazón. He was educated in his home town Mexico City, but the Pittsburgh and San Francisco training programmes for young artists soon started him on the road leading to an international career. The Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecien plays Enrico, Lucia’s tyrant brother. Mary Zimmerman staged the popular Donizetti opera based upon Sir Walter Scott’s novel renewed in the last season as a Victorian ghost story.
