Concertmaster: János Rolla Schubert: German Dances, D. 89 Schumann: Cello Concerto in A minor, op. 129 László Dubrovay: String Symphony Beethoven: Grosse Fuge, op. 133 English cellist Steven Isserlis has become world famous for his musicality and bravura technique. His passion for music breaks down the customary borders between form and genre; he is able to get audiences hooked on chamber music, encounter forgotten gems through his musicological research and perform with the world’s mos...t respected orchestras and conductors. He is especially interested in authentic performances and is keen to work with period instrument groups. Because of the adventurousness and novelty of his programmes, his chamber music concerts enjoy world renown. He launched a concert series at the Salzburg Festival, the Wigmore Hall and the New York Zankel Hall. He is an admirer of Schumann and besides many other awards and acknowledgements, he was awarded the Schumann Prize by the composer’s native town of Zwickau, which previously was bestowed on the likes of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Emil Gilels, Kurt Masur and Sviatoslav Richter. Steven Isserlis plays a “Feuerman” Stradivarius cello, from 1730, which was loaned to him by the Japanese Nippon Music Foundation.
