Concertmaster: János Rolla Beethoven: Coriolan Overture, op. 62 Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D major, op. 61 Mendelssohn: Octet in E flat major, op. 20 The Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1963 and after the death of artistic director Frigyes Sándor in 1979, the role was assumed by János Rolla. The ensemble has performed all over the world, from the Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center, from the Sydney Opera House to the Paris Théâtre de la Ville, and rapidly established a re...putation for itself as one of the leading chamber orchestras. “The string group boasts the rhythmic flexibility of the smallest of ensembles, as well as the synchronized bowing and lushness associated with the larger orchestras. They seemed almost to breathe together with the music, a furtive glance from director János Rolla being as effective as a conductor's baton. And most importantly, they looked as if they were having a ball”, said the critic of the Washington Post. Vadim Gluzman was born in Ukraine in 1973 and is a favourite of audiences and critics alike with his virtuosic and brilliant technique. He also plays in a duo with his wife, pianist Angela Yoffe, and besides the countries of Europe, has given concerts in the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea and Australia. He initially studied with Zakhar Bron before settling in Israel in 1990 and working with Yair Kless at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv. He continued in America with Arkady Fomin, and was later a student of Dorothy DeLay and Masao Kawasaki at the Julliard School. At the age of sixteen, he played with Isaac Stern and they became friends, often working together in Israel and America. He currently plays a 1690 Stradivarius violin which once belonged to Leopold Auer, lent to him by the Stradivari Society of Chicago. “In Gluzman's hands, this Strad doesn't speak: it proclaims, sings, sighs, laughs”, wrote the Detroit Times, after making a sensational debut with Neeme Järvi and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
