Celebrating its fiftieth anniversary, the El Camino Youth Symphony Orchestra comprises the most gifted young musicians from San Francisco’s Bay Area. Featuring talented soloists trained within the orchestra itself, the orchestra collaborates regularly with concertmasters from America’s leading symphony orchestras. Over the years, the orchestra has found success in its home country with partners including David Kim (Philadelphia Orchestra), Martin Chalifour (Los Angeles Philharmonic) and Michelle... Kim (New York Philharmonic), as well as the cellist Sumire Kudo. Every two years, the orchestra tours outside the United States and has given concerts in England, Scotland, Austria, France, Italy, Finland, Estonia, Russia, Germany, Poland and Spain. During its tour of Central Europe in 2005, the ensemble appeared at the Academy of Music in Budapest. As the last stop on its jubilee European tour, the El Camino Youth Symphony Orchestra will take the stage for a major concert at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, where more than 100 of its young musicians will perform under the baton of music director Dr. Camilla Kolchinsky, a graduate of the Moscow and Leningrad (St Petersburg) conservatories. Over a rich career, Kolchinsky has conducted the Moscow, London and Israel Philharmonics, as well as the Swedish Radio Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic and the Brussels Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others.
