Love has many faces - in its thematic programmes and concerts embracing other branches of the arts, the renowned Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok under Gábor Hollerung will be playing works connected in their manner of developing themes and their musical style. The featured choruses from Nyíregyháza can be considered, even by global standards, to be among the finest non-professional choral groups. If they enter a contest, they are certain to win at a canter. Their fantastic culture of sonority i...s the result of decades of work on the part of Kossuth Prize-winning chorister and music teacher Dénes Szabó, as well as extraordinarily intense workshop work that is ongoing even today, and to which his son Soma Szabó is also connected as its head. The other choir, the Budapest Academic Choral Society, has been in a symbiotic relationship with the Dohnányi Orchestra for decades and is a permanent fixture in its oratorio concerts.
Gábor Hollerung has long encouraged contemporary composers to write new works: the symphony being played alongside the two popular classic pieces was also written at his request, and it was he who premièred it with his orchestra in 2009. The composer, Levente Gyöngyösi, who celebrated his 50th birthday in 2005, says of his composition, "it develops a love story filled with personal meaning, with its arc being the birth of a great love, through to its passing, and then on to the birth of yet another love. There is a verse serving as a motto before each of the first three movements, which conveys the atmosphere for the movement. The choral part appears in the fourth movement, and here both the mezzosoprano soloist and the chorus deliver the poems. The work includes the writing of, among others, Dezső Kosztolányi, Paul Éluard, Christian Morgenstern, Jenő Dsida, János Pilinszky, Rainer Maria Rilke and Attila József
