One theme of art that can never be exhausted is that of love. It is a theme that is, of course, integral to countless works in musical history. The Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok has chosen several lovely pieces to both play and present in an extremely exciting way that also involves the sister arts, primarily dance. The first evening of the Faces of Love season ticket features Yvette Bozsik's renowned dance group, founded more than 20 years ago. This production organically fuses humour, a bit... of self-irony and some social criticism with a sense of playfulness and openness in its arrangement and choreography. The Kossuth Prize-winning choreographer/director and her outstanding company have participated in musical productions on numerous occasions, including, for example, orchestral performances with Iván Fischer and operatic productions in Paris. The first part of the evening's festivities will feature excerpts from Leonard Bernstein's immortal tale of Romeo and Juliet with a Puerto Rican twist. The second brings to life a curiously set love story by Béla Bartók, based on the original novella by Menyhért Lengyel.
Sandwiched between the two now-classic compositions is Kossuth Prize-winning contemporary composer László Dubrovay's fairy tale in music, written on the 200th anniversary of Ferenc Liszt's birth. The colourful story, full of twists and turns, tells the tale of the golden apple tree reaching up to the sky, Prince Árgyélus, who solves the riddle of the ravens, and his enchanted sweetheart.
