The focus in this concert from the Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok’s Music-Image series is less on Orff’s popular Carmina Burana, and more on African Sanctus, the most famous work by David Fanshawe, the passionate ethnographer and composer who recently passed away. The work combines original recordings made by the composer with live music, bringing together a chorus, instrumental ensemble and technical apparatus to create the live performance. As the work is played, the audience will see a filmed tra...velogue made by the composer during his African expedition, featuring the dances, tribal rituals and people linked to and inspiring each of the work’s thirteen movements. The composition beautifully juxtaposes a muezzin’s call to prayer with the Christian Kyrie, and an African war dance with the Crucifixus. Until the end of his life, the composer maintained an unshakeable belief in the unity of humanity and its omnipresent spiritual community. Presented by: Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok
