Featuring Debrecen Kodály Choir(choirmaster: Zoltán Pad) Péter Tóth: “A Helység Kalapácsa” – premiere Stravinsky: Oedipus Rex Led by Balázs Kocsár, the Debrecen Philharmonic Orchestra was merged in 2006 with one of the few professional choirs in Hungary, the Debrecen Kodály Choir, which appointed a new conductor in 2009. Péter Tóth composed a work for them in the summer of 2009, a “concert chorus-opera” which besides the Petőfi poem of the title, draws on other Petőfi verses. In the second ha...lf, we hear a masterpiece that is a true challenge for any major orchestra, Stravinsky’s one hour opera-oratorio Oedipus Rex. According to the composer, he cobbled the music together from whatever fell to hand.
