J. S. Bach: Fantasy and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542 (organ) Liszt: B-A-C-H Fantasy and Fugue (piano) Liszt: B-A-C-H Prelude and Fugue (organ) Liszt: Les Préludes – Csaba Király’s transcription for organ J. S. Bach: Fantasy and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542 – transcription for piano by Franz Liszt Liszt: Totentanz – arranged for piano and organ by László Fassang Csaba Király was born in 1965 and is one of those rare artists who work as both pianist and organist to the highest professional level.... He studied piano at the Budapest Academy of Music with Zoltán Kocsis and Sándor Falvai and organ with Ferenc Gergely. In 1985, despite being one of the youngest entrants he won the Hungarian Radio National Piano Competition and in 1996 and 1997, took first prizes at the Cagliari and New Orleans international piano competitions. He says he is particularly attracted to large scale concert series. He has performed all of Bach’s Wohltemperiertes Klavier on several occasions as well as all of Liszt and Bach’s organ works; starting in 2001, he launched a series at the Academy of Music during which, over several years, he played all the piano works of Liszt. From October 2007 until May 2008 he will be playing all thirty two of Beethoven’s sonatas in Pécs. He deservedly attracts much attention in both Hungary and abroad with the uncommon structure of his concerts including his daring and original transcriptions. The only unusual aspect to this concert is that he will be playing on both of his instruments, allowing us to hear Franz Liszt’s B-A-C-H Fantasy and Fugue in both versions, in which the giant of both organ and piano is present at the same time. The first half presents original works, while the second is devoted to transcriptions. As a synthesis, we shall hear Liszt’s demonic Totentanz in László Fassang’s remarkable transcription for piano and organ.
