The Russian masters take centre stage at this concert, which features two duly popular 19th century compositions divided by Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2 in G minor, premiered in Madrid in 1935. The pieces by Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov invite the audience into two vastly different worlds: the overture depicts through the language of music the historic battle of Borodino that stopped Napoleon’s troops (besides several well known Russian tunes, the score contains the Marseillaise and 16 ca...non shots), while Scheherazade conjures up the magic oriental atmosphere of the tales of One Thousand and One Nights. Concerto Budapest, conducted by András Keller has invited Vadim Repin, one of the most acclaimed performers of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2, to play the piece in Budapest. Repin’s concerts often feature the composers’ violin concertos and his recordings have been awarded prestigious prizes. The artist was born in Siberia in 1971, and acquired international fame after winning the Wieniawski and Queen Elisabeth Competitions. He has since performed with the greatest musicians at the most acclaimed concert venues and festivals.
