Conductor: Gábor Takács-Nagy Featuring András Keller – violin Brahms: Tragic Overture, op. 81 Berg: Violin Concerto, op. 61 Concerto funebre for violin and string orchestra The Tragic Overture has a dark and serious tone. According to Brahms’s close friend Kalbeck, the work was originally intended for a performance of Goethe’s Faust at a Vienna theatre. Alban Berg’s violin concerto, his last completed work, was inspired by the death of a closer acquaintance, the 18 year old Manon Grop...ius. Anton Bruckner’s greatest symphonic successes were with this seventh and this, his fourth symphonies. Written between 1873 and 1880, it was inspired by nature, the woods and meadows.
