Alongside the Korunk Zenéje (Music of Our Time) and Budapest Autumn festivals, the Mini-Fesztivál is among the top forums for contemporary and 20th century music in the Hungarian capital. The weekend of concerts primarily showcases the work of Hungarian musicians. The Hungarian Music Society is organising the showcase for the 23rd occasion in 2011, an event that has staged hundreds of compositions, many of them for the first time. As is tradition, the Mini Festival will take place on the last we...ekend of January and will feature chamber concerts, choral works and symphonic evenings. The festival, which relocated to the Palace of Arts several years ago, aims not only to maintain cultural values, but also to introduce audiences to compositions by young artists. This honourable intention is illustrated once again by the rich programme of events drawn up for 2011. After many years, a respected foreign orchestra has been invited to play at the Mini Festival once again when a British-Hungarian evening will feature the London Sinfonietta. The opening concert – the festival's calling card – allows a peek into the work of several generations. To complement music by a number of composers yet to reach the age of thirty, a composition written in 1991 by festival organiser Zsolt Durkó's will be performed by outstanding flautist Zoltán Gyöngyössy. Péter Durkó bridges these two generations alongside László Dubrovay, Iván Madarász and János Vajda, all composers who enjoy widespread acclaim. In the spirit of the festival, the work will be performed by artists from several generations: Successful and experienced musicians are joined here by a host of talented youngsters just beginning their musical careers.
