Szôllôsy: Musica per orchestra Dohnányi: The Veil of Pierrette – suite, op. 18 Brahms: Symphony no. 4 in E minor, op. 98 Hungary’s oldest professional orchestra has worked with such distinguished conductors as Furtwängler, Klemperer, Richter János, Nikisch and Failoni. One of its former music directors was Ernô Dohnányi who finished his first stage work, a pantomime based on Arthur Schnitzler’s The Veil of the Pierrette, in 1909. András Szőllősy’s work Musica per orchestra written for centena...ry celebrations of the unification of Buda, Pest and Óbuda in 1972, is rarely heard these days. In the second half of the concert, we will one of Brahms’s later masterpieces, conducted by a conductor in his mid thirties, Domonkos Héja, who is also principal conductor at the Chemnitz Opera.
