Conductor: Iván Fischer “Secret concerts” Four years ago, the Budapest Festival Orchestra launched its “secret concerts” series and they have been a remarkable success. Audience flock to the concert hall without knowing the programme or the performers, proving that many people trust its deviser and conductor, Iván Fischer who particularly recommends these concerts to music lovers who are young at heart, curious and lovers of secrets. Some of the secrets which Iván Fischer and his ensemble... have shared with audiences in earlier concerts have been Richard Strauss’s marvellous The Legend of Joseph as well as arias and songs sung by the American soprano Christine Brewer, Kabalevsky’s Violin Concerto performed by the twelve year old Júlia Pusker, Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Trumpet Concerto with Norwegian soloist Hakan Hardenberger, Kurt Weill’s exciting and virtually unknown (in Hungary) opera The Silver Lake, Brahms’s Piano Quartet in G minor orchestrated by Schoenberg, Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A major performed by the ninety year old Hungarian pianist (now resident in France) Lívia Rév, as well as works by Salieri who is only known here as a figure in the Mozart legend.
