Featuring: Jung-Yoon Yang – violin Conductor: Vladimír Válek Mozart: Don Giovanni – overture, K. 527 Beethoven: Violin Concerto, op. 61 Smetana: Moldau Janáček: Sinfonietta Vladimír Válek has been the chief conductor of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra since 1985; under this stewardship, the orchestra has become one of the finest radio orchestras in Europe. Since 2004, he has also been chief conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra but works all over the world as a guest con...ductor and has performed with many leading ensembles and made over one thousand recordings. In the first half of the concert, we shall hear Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the young but already highly successful Korean artist Jung-Yoon Yang as soloist. Vladimir Válek conducts Czech music in the second half of the concert: perhaps the most popular of all Czech pieces, Smetana’s Moldau, and one of the last works by Leoš Janáček. Janáček was born in 1854 and died in 1928, and although his life coincided largely with the Romantic era, he was also influenced by many new musical trends of the 20th century, and above all, by a commitment to Czech music. These make his works, with their folk themes, melody and many interesting harmonies, extremely contemporary and yet entirely enjoyable.
