Conductor: Stephen D’Agostino Choirmasters: Ildikó Balassa, Kálmán Strausz, Péter Drucker Mozart: Requiem, K. 626 (completed by Tamás Pánczél) Andrew Lloyd Webber: Requiem In the second concert in the joint series of the MR Music Groups and the Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok, we shall hear the famous Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a version completed by Tamás Pánczél. Mozart died before completing his Requiem and Pánczél has made his own attempt to reconstruct it. He has corrected Franz X...aver Süssmayer’s additions which allegedly reflect the composer’s intentions, being forced in places to alter the harmonies, as well as adding a new Lacrimosa movement and Amen fugue. The second half of the concert features a 20th century requiem which Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote in the memory of his father. It was premièred in 1985 and was inspired by an article Webber had read in the New York Times. It was about a Cambodian boy who had the option of killing his mutilated sister or being killed himself. This work treads a path between contemporary music and the musical and with its monumental choral movements contrasted against a child soloist, it creates a remarkable effect. Three vocal ensembles have come together for this performance.
