Conductor: Zoltán Kocsis J. S. Bach: Mass in B minor Soloists: Júlia Hajnóczy, Orsolya Sáfár, Atala Schöck, Szabolcs Brickner, Gábor Bretz – singers, Hungarian National Choir (choirmaster: Mátyás Antal) Finished in 1733, Johann Sebastian Bach worked on his monumental Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) for decades. Of his church works, it is of comparable stature to the St Matthew Passion. He did not write it to a commission but for his own pleasure. This arduous and the lengthy period of maturation ma...kes it unique even by Bach’s towering standards: it is not only extraordinarily expansive but is extremely rich in terms of musical techniques. Soloistic and chamber music elements alternate with passages for large orchestra and two choirs. The Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra are UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors for Hungary and the revenue generated by this concert will be offered to the world’s largest children’s protection organisation.
