Conductor: Kent Nagano R. Strauss: Also Sprach Zarathustra, op. 30 Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 in E flat major (“Eroica”), op. 55 In the past decade Kent Nagano has attracted attention with his premières of contemporary operas that have proved to be of lasting value. They include such successful productions as Messiaen’s Saint François d’Assise, Péter Eötvös’s Three Sisters, Kaija Saariaho’s L’Amour de loin and John Adams’s The Death of Klinghoffer. Since September 2006 he has been music dire...ctor of the prestigious Munich Opera and at the 2007 opera festival (June) he continued the earlier successes with Alice in Wonderland, an opera by Unsul Chin, a student of Ligeti. In short: Nagano is writing music history. His concert in Budapest at the head of his Munich ensemble appears to be innovative even though he will conduct familiar pieces, including one by a Munich composer, Richard Strauss.
