Extracts from Handel’s operas (Admeto, re di Tessaglia, Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Radamisto, Rodelinda, Partenope), Concerto grosso, op. 6. No.1 Concerto grosso („Alexander’s Feast), HWV 318 „These days there are more counter-tenors before the public than ever before but one stands out above them all, the Caruso of the genre: Andreas Scholl.” So wrote an English critic about this artist, born in a small town by the Rhein and discovered by René Jacobs. Like all great performers, Scholl’s art... knows no national boundaries, yet most frequently he sings works by the German turned English composer Georg Friedrich Handel. His Budapest concert draws on the unfathomable richness of Handel’s oeuvre, with a colourful programme, accompanied by the chamber orchestra, founded in 1945, with the longest continuous history.
