Since January 2012, contemporary Hungarian literature has found a home in the Palace of Arts under the aegis of the Literarium series, which in its first season has already garnered a strong reputation as a prestigious forum for today’s outstanding writers. These popular evenings, which have repeatedly packed in full houses so far, continue for their second season by presenting a series of authors well known to the public at large in the now customary but unusual format, with numerous surprises ...in store. Instead of the regular musical collaborators of the first season, from now on a different guest musician “tailor-made” to each featured literary figure will ensure the high standard of the evening’s proceedings. Krisztina Tóth is one of our most popular and most widely-read contemporary authors. Be it prose or verse, her voice is unmistakably individual. Her art displays a bewildering depth of knowledge of the subtleties of the female spirit, emotional upheavals and the nature of physical desire – of the enormous power of instincts, tendencies, urges, good and bad habits, the games people play and the deep layers of male-female relationships: all those things that are fundamental to our existence. Her writing views the dull realities of everyday experience through a poet’s perspective on the vagaries of emotion and spirit, thus addressing itself to an exceptionally wide readership. The evening will undoubtedly serve to fully justify and confirm her broad appeal and popularity, and promises to be both a genuinely unsettling and memorably entertaining artistic experience of the highest standard. In addition to a number of her own surprise guests, she will be joined by the outstanding jazz drummer Elemér Balázs, who will perform music with his trio.
